TITLE IX 40TH ANNIVERSARY
PITTING GENDERS AGAINST ONE ANOTHER
A Field of Limitations and Unintended Consequences 

WASHINGTON DC – This Saturday marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX, part of the Education Amendments of 1972, which was passed by Congress intended to restrain gender discrimination in educational settings and create an equal playing field. While succeeding to create opportunities for women, the law has unfortunately pitted genders against one another creating limitations and resulting in unintended consequences.

Sabrina Schaeffer, executive director of Independent Women’s Forum, released the following statement to reflect on the laws ramifications:

The truth about Title IX is that rather than create gender equality on the field, it has helped institutionalize reverse gender discrimination and quotas – and if expanded into academics, it threatens to do the same thing in the classroom. Creating opportunities for women should not eliminate scores of opportunities for men.

Unfortunately, special-interest groups on the left continue to move the goal posts. It's no longer sufficient to have gender equality — now feminists are seeking gender parity in all walks of life.

The fact is, men and women — no matter how balanced the circumstances — maintain different strengths and preferences and with this anniversary it’s time to recognize that we can’t engineer women’s choices.
