We all know that Obama for America has been working real hard on their “Get Out The Vote” campaign, and has recruited what feels like half of Hollywood to help out.
The newest star to film an Obama ad is Lena Dunham.
Dunham, creator of HBO’s show ‘Girls’ and the so-called voice of her generation, filmed an ad specifically targeting the youth vote.
And what do the youngsters like to talk about? Sex.
“Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody,” says Dunham. “You wanna do it with a great guy … Someone who really cares about and understands women.”
She lists many qualities that make President Barack Obama not just a qualified candidate for a female voter, but would be appreciated in a boyfriend or a husband – such as caring about birth control and equal pay. Voting is not just like losing your virginity, it’s also like a four-year long relationship, says Dunham:
“Think about how you want to spend those four years. In college age time, that’s 150 years. It’s also super uncool to be out and about, when someone says did you vote and you say “No, I wasn’t ready.”"
The last part could end up being a fodder for the conservative pundits. Dunham might have taken the sex as voting metaphor a something-we-won’t-talk-about too far.
Independent Women’s Forum presumes that this ad might have been released as a reaction to BetterDirection.org’s ad, which portrayed Obama as the boyfriend who let down the female voters.
However, according to Hadley Heath, a senior policy analyst at the Independent Women’s Forum, Obama’s campaign took it a step too far with the Dunham ad, moving beyond a relationship metaphor to one of sex.
“This ad simply proves that the Obama Campaign only knows how to speak to one specific type of woman. And I’m proud to say I am not that type of woman. If the White House thinks all women are this way, this is utterly sexist. Would they make an ad like this for men if Michelle were running against Ann Romney? No. Not only do they demean sex, they make women out to be downright silly about it.”
