When I met Lady Thatcher in 2004, I remember wondering if we’d ever see a conservative woman like her in the US presidency. The closest we’ve come is former cabinet members such as Condoleezza Rice and Elaine Chow, but no presidential contenders. As female governors like Susana Martinez (NM) and Nikki Haley (SC) and Senators like Kelly Ayotte (NH) and Deb Fischer (NE) rise among the ranks, I hold out hope that my country will see a woman of principle and fortitude in the highest office.

In the meanwhile, I’m going to pour a glass of wine and learn about the Iron Lady. You can join me! On Wednesday February 13, we will host an event featuring wine, hors d’oeuvres, and the author of  Margaret Thatcher: A Portrait of the Iron Lady, John Blundell. His intimate portrait of the British Prime Minister tells the story of her upbringing, her years in public office, her inestimable contribution to the fall of communism, and what she’s done since retirement for the cause of liberty. The book provides poignant insights into the life, ideas, and character of one of history’s greatest women.
