In an appropriately impassioned speech at the memorial for slain MIT policeman Sean Collier yesterday, Vice President Joe Biden referred to the bombers as “knockoff jihadis.”

I guess knockoff jihadis is what you call two supremely successful terrorists in a world in which Osama bin Laden is dead and Al-Qaeda has been decimated and a smooth talking president has “restored” our standing in the world and brought about the peaceable kingdom.

Knockoff jihadis are what you have in a world in which a man shouts “Allahu Akbar” before whipping out a gun and killing 13 people and the government classifies it as “workplace violence.” I wonder how long it took Biden speechwriters to come up with “knockoff jihadis.”

Could our vice president really be this befuddled:

"I get asked, like my colleagues, almost every day since 9/11, 'Why? Why? Why?,'" Biden said.

"Whether it’s al-Qaida central out of the FATA [Federally Administered Tribal Areas] or two twisted, perverted, cowardly, knockoff jihadis here in Boston, why do they do what they do?”

Could it have something to do with Islamic terrorism, Mr. Biden?

Just a thought.
