If you’ve just about given up on women’s magazines as boring and vulgar, Verily, a new magazine launching in June, might be just your cup of tea.

Verily sees itself as a fresh alternative for women. “Like so many things in NYC, Verily was born over a gathering of friends for brunch. We ended up on the topic of women’s magazines – in particular, how most of them didn’t seem to reflect our lives or our philosophies as women,” the editors write.

“We had gone through the learning curve of our first jobs, navigated life in a new city, and been on more first dates than many of us would like to admit,” the editors continue. “If this group of modern women were all feeling overlooked, surely others must feel the same way?”

Verily will cover culture, relationships, lifestyle, and style. In contrast to the hea-vee, dark covers on some of the established women's magazines, Verily's June/July debut cover features a happy-looking young woman with a bike in an urban setting. Since the magazine is to be print only, subscriptions will be required. Get the 411 here.

“Verily is a fashion and lifestyle magazine that is less about who you should be, and more about who you are” explains Ashley Crouch, one of the editors. “We feature fashion that is worthy of the woman, relationship coverage that goes beyond sex tips, and strong cultural and lifestyle journalism.”

“In contrast to other magazines whose tones can be saccharine sweet, hypersexual, or abrasive,” Ashley continued, “Verily aims to show, not tell – through curated visuals and thoughtful messaging–we invite women to have real, down-to-earth conversations over what matters to them most.

“We are not afraid to be different, to go beyond a narrow view of romantic relationships, often characterized by sex tips and manipulation, and instead offer practical, thought-provoking guidance to navigate the myriad facets of our lives,” Ashley said. “We’re expanding the media’s narrow portrayal of what is beautiful, what is desirable, by featuring real women and models from all nationalities whose measurements are bigger than a size 2. All told, Verily is the modern woman’s go-to source for leading a fulfilling, integrated life.”
