While I will refrain from detailed comment on the immigration bill on the grounds that I have not read it, I do have a nifty idea for Congress.
Why don’t you read the bill before voting on it?
ObamaCare, also passed unread, has turned out to be a surprise a minute. The immigration bill might be the same. There has been insufficient discussion of what’s in the bill, and like ObamaCare, it is the product of backroom deals. Chances are good that it will become another Nancy Pelosi nasty surprise piñata.
Dr. Susan Berry of Breitbart has spotted a way in which the immigration bill could actually lead to higher unemployment for U.S. citizens:
Under the Gant of 8's backroom immigration deal with Senators Schumer, Corker and Hoeven, formerly illegal immigrants who are amnestied will be eligible to work, but will not be eligible for ObamaCare. Employers who would be required to pay as much as a $3,000 penalty for most employees who receive an ObamaCare healthcae "exchange" subsidy, would not have to pay the penalty if they hire
Consequently, employers would have a significant incentive to hire or retain amnestied immigrants, rather than current citizens, including those who have recently achieved citizenship via the current naturalization process.
The issue is really an “interaction effect” of the immigration proposal and ObamaCare itself. …
