Thanks to Obamacare Creepy Uncle Sam will be popping up in the middle of your gynecological exam or worse. Yes, Uncle will be asking intimate questions and the answers must go on your permanent, electronic file, or you doctor could be punished financially.
But being asked nosey questions isn’t the only thing about ObamaCare that has people of every age worried.
We’re reported on the countless ways that ObamaCare will negatively impact individuals with the financial burden it will impose on them and the erosion of our freedom and ability to make our own choices.
Young people will be hit particularly hard. The premiums paid by millennials will rise by as much as 169%. Imagine going from paying a few tens of dollars each month (or nothing – if you elect not to purchase healthcare) to potentially hundreds of dollars each month.
Some young people are not taking it any longer. Generation Opportunity, a youth advocacy organization in the Washington area (in full disclosure, I work for this group), is launching a campaign called OptOut to educate young people on their choices.
Yahoo reports today:
“As the Republican dream of repealing President Barack Obama’s health care law in Congress crumbles, the fight over the law’s future shifts from Washington to college campuses, where the new challenge for Obamacare proponents lies in convincing young people to sign up for coverage mandated by the law.
The period to enroll in health insurance exchanges established under the 2010 law begins Oct. 1, which will mark the start of a race to urge Americans to participate. The health exchanges rely heavily on young, healthy Americans who will subsidize the sick and elderly within the pools. Without the healthy, the exchanges could be unsustainable. The Obama administration is devoting millions of public dollars to promote the exchanges, but many conservative groups are actively working to convince people not to join.
That’s where Creepy Uncle Sam comes in.
… Later this month, the group will begin a tour of 20 college campuses, where they plan to set up shop alongside pro-Obamacare activists such as Enroll America who are working to sign people up for the insurance exchanges.
Generation Opportunity intends to host events at college football tailgate parties festivals, where “brand ambassadors” (read: hot young people) will pass out beer koozies that read, “opt out,” pizza and literature about the health care law. Some events may have impromptu dance parties with DJ’s, complete with games of Cornhole and competitions for prizes, organizers said.
Their message: You don’t have to sign up for Obamacare.
The campaigns videos are probably the most eye-opening as they bring to life what it means when the government runs your healthcare options. For example, a young women who got Obamacare sees a big creepy Uncle Sam character appear out of now where just before she’s about to have her annual gynecological exam.
More than just eye-opening, this campaign highlights critical issues affecting the millennial demographic.
- Obamacare is expensive for young people at almost three times the cost of their current health insurance;
- Obamacare is a pyramid scheme that forces healthy, young people to pay for sicker, older Americans; and
- The data hub that seven government agencies and thousands of government workers have access to is insecure.
What person let alone a young person who is fortunate enough to be employed right now wants to devote precious dollars that could be used paying down student loan debt or buying groceries for healthcare they don’t think they need? On top of that, we have to worry about identify theft. (You did know that an Obamacare navigator (counselor) accidentally leaked 2,400 social security numbers?) I hope one wasn’t mine or yours.
As a freedom lover, I’m troubled by Obamacare’s mandate. As a young person I don’t want to pay more of my hard earned dollars, and, as a hardworking person, I don’t want to fall prey to thieves. Opting out (#optout) may be the way to make that clear to the Administration.
