Not content with trying to ruin Thanksgiving dinner for millions of innocent Americans, President Obama has engaged in yet another desperate maneuver on behalf of his jinxed health insurance reform: now he’s asking young bartenders to host happy hours to push ObamaCare:

During today's White House Youth Summit, President Obama called on young people to do whatever they can to promote his signature health care law — including plying their customers with cheap booze.

"If you are a bartender, have a happy hour," Obama said as the crowd laughed. "And also probably get health insurance because a lot of people don't have it."

Obviously, if you’re going to buy ObamaCare or get a risqué tattoo, it helps to be drunk.

However, even if you can’t get people soused, POTUS believes there is a role:

Obama also encouraged young people who are student body presidents or workers at nonprofit organizations to help people get enrolled.

"If you've got a radio show, spread the word on air," Obama added.

Obama called on young people's sense of patriotism to join the cause.

"[The] bottom line is that I'm going to need you, the country needs you," Obama said, reminding them that their friends and peers might not know the benefits of Obamacare.

Alas for President Obama, millennials do know just how desperately the president needs them. If they don’t buy health insurance policies at exorbitant prices, his signature program will go kaput.

But, as my colleague Patrice Lee reported earlier this week (“Tuning Out ObamaCare”), young people may disappoint our needy president:

According to Gallup only 63 percent of 18-29 year olds are familiar with the Affordable Care Act compared to 72 percent of 30-49 year olds, 77 percent of 50-64 year olds and 75 percent of those over 65. The 37 percent of young people who are unfamiliar with ObamaCare is eleven points higher than the national average.

The Administration should be concerned as this demographic is critical to the solvency of ObamaCare. The President needs 2.7 million healthy young 18-35 year olds to sign up for insurance to help subsidize the cost of healthcare for those who are older and more ill. That over a third of these young Americans are unfamiliar with Obamacare –a number that has remained unchanged since August- doesn’t bode well for the Administration. There go all of those efforts by Amy Poehler, Kal Penn, Jennifer Hudson and Babe the Big Blue Ox.

Of those young people who do know about ObamaCare, are they embracing ObamaCare? The Administration is not releasing demographic data, so we don’t really know. However, when we consider the impacts of ObamaCare on this demographic, we can expect they will be slow to embrace it.

But it’s not just ObamaCare that is failing to attract youthful enthusiasm. In a piece that must have made White House officials think happy hour couldn't come a minute too soon (“Millennials Abandon Obama and ObamaCare”), National Journal’s Ron Fournier reports that “young Americans are turning against Barack Obama and ObamaCare.”

Fournier quotes a new survey from Harvard’s Institute of Politics that the majority of Americans under the age of 25 would favor throwing President Obama out of office. (Okay, kids, just because President Obama sometimes takes a cavalier attitude towards the Constitution, it doesn’t mean the rest of us should.)

Fifty-seven percent of those in the study disapprove of ObamaCare and 40 percent believe it will worsen the quality of their health care. Fournier quoted a Harvard dean saying the president has done a poor job of explaining ObamaCare. But it’s not the president’s explaining that is deficient: ObamaCare is turning out badly, no matter what desperate presidents and hopeful deans tell us. It should be noted that the Democrats still have an advantage with this age group, but it is fading.

Bottums up, folks.
