WASHINGTON (VR)– Senator Rand Paul on Sunday declared that if there’s a war on women, women are winning.
The Senator also took a shot at Democrats. On NBC’s Meet the Press Senator Paul accused Democrats of overlooking the Monica Lewinsky scandal. “I mean this isn’t me saying oh, he’s had an affair we shouldn’t talk to him. Someone who takes advantage of a young girl in their office… I mean really! And then they have the gall to stand up and say Republicans are having a War on Women,” Senator Paul said.
Sabrina Schaeffer, the executive director of the Independent Women’s Forum and the Co-author of “Liberty is No War on Women” calls the War on Women a “good talking point for Democrats.” She says many Republican policies that shrink government or help people save tax money also benefit women.
Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney lost the popular vote to Obama by a slim margin. However, the gap with women was more than ten percent in Obama’s favor – 55-44 percent. This sex-based gap often reappears in elections, working against Republicans.
Schaeffer says, “I would take issue with the idea Republican policies are inherently anti-women.” Per Schaeffer, Republicans need to do more to reach out to women and promote their policies.
Discussion of the Republican War on Women reignited Thursday when former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said women want more than birth control at the Republican National Convention.
Huckabee said, “If the Democrats want to insult the women of American by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it. Let us take that discussion all across America because women are far more than the Democrats have played them to be.”
