From Helicopter To Hazmat Parenting
How the Culture of Alarmism is Turning Parenting into a Dangerous Job

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — On Thursday, May 1st, Independent Women's Forum will host a New York City panel discussion "From Helicopter to Hazmat Parenting: How the Culture of Alarmism is Turning Parenting into a Dangerous Job."

Alarmists know that women are increasingly becoming the primary breadwinners for their households while also handling the bulk of the domestic responsibilities. To add to the stress, terrifying headlines about child safety, food and agriculture, chemicals, and everyday household products bombard women daily.

"Parents are bombarded with alarmist messages on a daily basis about how the food they eat, the habits they practice and the household products they use threaten their health and the health of their children," says Julie Gunlock, event moderator and director of Independent Women Forum’s Culture of Alarmism project.

Rather than make women feel more informed, the onslaught of alarmist information makes moms (and dads) feel guilty, confused, even angry, while doing very little to alter their choices and behaviors.

"Enough is enough! Parents need facts, not alarmism from science-denying activist organizations that profit on fear and misery," adds Gunlock.

This dynamic panel discussion will bring some measure of relief to nervous parents who are doing their best to raise healthy and happy kids without going insane with worry.

Independent Women's Forum works to improve the lives of Americans by increasing the number of women who value free-markets and personal liberty.

Americans are bombarded with messages about how everyday products threaten their health and the health of their children. The media hypes the findings from scientifically-dubious studies; politicians and government regulators seize on them to promote regulations that expand their power and so that they can reassure the public they are doing something to protect Americans.  IWF is leading the fight against this Culture of Alarmism.
