Communications Associate

Reports to IWF Communications Director

The Independent Women’s Forum, the leading free-market organization dedicated to understanding and changing how women think about political principles and public policy, and engaging women to open their mind to our arguments and cause, seeks a communications professional with at least three years of experience in public relations and/or media.

The Communications Associate must have a working knowledge of broadcast media and experience writing press releases and other communications to media, oped submissions, pitching spokesmen and stories to broadcast media, and setting up meet and greets.

The Communications Director will build on existing relationships with media and work to cultivate new relationships. This includes national TV network producers and bookers, radio producers, and/or journalists. Someone with existing relationships a plus.

The Communications Associate must be able to demonstrate initiative, professionalism, organization and attention to detail; and must be skilled at working independently as well as part of a team. The Communications Associate must be excellent at verbal and written communication, and a self-starter, with discipline and focus to work from a virtual office.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists with reaching out to print, broadcast and online media through press releases, media advisories, pitch calls and social media to promote IWF spokesmen and commentary;

Shares responsibility for creating, updating and maintaining media lists; develops issue-specific media lists for promoting IWF content, especially related to women, the workplace, health care, education, food, chemicals and politics;

Assists in developing and implementing outreach strategy for earned media and social media;

Assists in developing email content for IWF and sister organization IWV; Documents, through spreadsheets, metrics for tracking media, including television, radio, opeds, mentions, blogs;

Manage and populate social media accounts;

Assists in managing IWF.org website, including adding pictures to blog posts, posting opeds, press releases, media clips and other promotional materials;

Monitors news and identifies opportunities for IWF to make statements;

search for IWF mentions and quotes;

Assist in pulling media clips (radio/television) and upload to IWF website;

Assist with event planning, coordination, and execution, including IWF’s annual Woman of Valor gala.
