We've already blogged on the California teachers who sued because they didn't want to pay dues to teacher unions.
Sure, they can decline to join because they disagree with everything the unions stand for, but in 23 states they still have to pay a portion of the dues. One of the teachers, Harlan Elrich, explained the situation in a column in the Wall Street Journal.
Well, now you have an opportunity to support the teachers Monday, January 11, on the steps of the Supreme Court, as the high court takes up their lawsuit. From the flyer:
Did you know that workplace freedom may become a reality for all public employees across the country in 2016? Come be a part of history!
Join us to show your support for California teacher Rebecca Friedrichs [lead plaintiff in the suit] and teachers across the country who deserve the right to decide for themselves whether or not they want to belong to and financially support a union.
The rally will be from 9 am to 12:30 pm on the steps of the Supreme Court, 1 First Street, NE.
There are associated events, including a breakfast, at the Heritage Foundation. Here are details, if you would like to attend.
