INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S FORUM STATEMENT ON TOXIC LIES BEHIND JESSICA ALBA'S "HONEST" BOOMING BABY BUSINESS
Honest Co.'s Main Commodity Is Fear.. A False Promise That Its Products Are Better And Safer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two independent lab reports, commissioned by the Wall Street Journal, have determined Jessica Alba's Honest Company, which thrives on alarmism, and a promise of safer, healthier products at a high price, may not be so honest after all. The company's liquid laundry detergent contains an ingredient it pledged to avoid – sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). The labs say its test for SLS found about the same concentration of the maligned ingredient in Honest as is found in Tide.
Julie Gunlock, IWF's culture of alarmism director, said:
Jessica Alba's Honest Company markets itself as chemical free–but that isn't true. It's not honest. Her products contain many of the safe chemicals that are also used by her competitors. The more Alba and the Honest company mislead consumers about their product line, the more consumers will lose trust in those products. It's basic business sense–be honest with your customers. The “Honest” Company profits from scaring moms and offering a false promise of safer, healthier products at a much high price. Women deserve better.
