You've heard of the war on Christmas. How about the war on that favorite Christmastime tune, "Baby It's Cold Outside"?
Yup, it's been officially decided by the PC police that the artfully rhymed holiday duet written by Guys and Dolls composer Frank Loesser (and covered by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, and Dolly Parton), promotes nonconsensual sex:
No, we can't have lyrics like:
I really can't stay – Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away – Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been – Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice – I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
The Huffington Post's Jenna Amatulli tells us what to think:
If you’ve ever listened to the classic Christmas song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” then you know it’s a really screwed up tune.
So, according to CNN, a pair of PC music cops in Minneapolis, Lydia Liza and Joseph Lemanski have rewritten the lyrics to make them more palatble to rape-culture sensibilities:
The song's seeming disregard for the woman's desire to leave never sat well with Lemanski or Liza.
"I've always had a big problem with the song. It's so aggressive and inappropriate," said Lemanski, 25….
"I ought to say no, no, no," sings Liza.
"You reserve the right to say no," croons Lemanski.
How catchy. Jenna Amatulli certainly approves:
Lyrics like “You reserve the right to say no” are so much better than the original.
Hot Air points out that the Liza, Lemanski, and Amatulli are scarcely the first to wag a moralistic finger at Loesser's song:
It’s a movement that started a few years ago and has been taken up with more fervor and passion every Christmas season.
But as Hot Air reminds us:
One Sayyid Qutb, Islamist and father of the Muslim Brotherhood which eventually brought us Al Qaeda was scandalized by the song when he lived in the US back in the 1950s as part of a student exchange program.
Strange how feminist jihadism and actual jihadism dovetail so nicely:
Ah, but it's cold outside
Oh, baby, it's cold outside
Oh, baby, it's cold outside
