Politics stink and yesterday’s explosive admission makes the political world on the left smell a little bit worse.
Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile revealed evidence yesterday that the Hillary Clinton Campaign and the DNC conspired together to rig the nomination in her favor and against Senator Bernie Sanders.
Brazile published an excerpt from her new upcoming book in Politico, where she reveals the shocking truth that many voters and political operatives suspected, but could not confirm.
When Brazile took over leadership of the DNC from Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the DNC was broke and in debt millions – still owing $24 million for President Obama’s 2012 campaign. This was 2015. Yet, the Hillary campaign was wielding uncommon control over money, resources, and staffing even though she had not been nominated.
Brazile wanted to investigate and found the information she’d been looking for: an agreement that gave the Hillary camp control over just about everything in exchange for keeping the DNC financially afloat:
The agreement … specified that in exchange for raising money and investing in the DNC, Hillary would control the party’s finances, strategy, and all the money raised. Her campaign had the right of refusal of who would be the party communications director, and it would make final decisions on all the other staff. The DNC also was required to consult with the campaign about all other staffing, budgeting, data, analytics, and mailings.
It was signed just four months after she announced her run and nearly a year before she received the Democratic nomination.
Like a secret that everyone knew about but no one dared say – except for Bernie Sanders and his supporters – Democrats admitted it was true that the DNC rigged the party for Clinton to nab the nomination.
Even Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren confirmed it and called the situation a “problem.” A flurry of former Clinton campaign spokespeople and Democratic strategists have suddleny become forthwright too.
Brazile isn't a saint. Her motivation may be purely financial since she’s trying to sell books. She was caught funneling primary debate questions to Hillary beforehand while she was a CNN analyst. In addition, she could have released this information before the election. She found this all out in September and called Bernie Sanders to tell him the truth about the nomination process. Imagine if she had made this public back then.
However, Brazile is right about a fundamental problem of integrity in the Democratic party:
“If the fight had been fair,” she added, “one campaign would not have control of the party before the voters had decided which one they wanted to lead. This was not a criminal act, but as I saw it, it compromised the party's integrity.”
Hillary Clinton and her campaign would stop at nothing to win the 2016 election – including rigging her own party primary in her favor. Yet, even with the odds in her favor, it was not enough to win the election. She was not a good candidate with a message that inspired people.
This leaves us wondering, is this the first time the campaign had used such tactics? What other bones are hiding in the closet?
Lest, the Republican Party snickers too much, this is a cautionary tale and a warning to establishment leaders about keeping out outsiders. The electorate is leaning away from traditional insiders and towards those who want to disrupt the status quo. President Donald Trump’s election is an example of that.
The truth always comes out.
