HOUSE PASSES TAX BILL THAT'S  A WIN FOR WOMEN & FAMILIES

It Empowers Women and Families to Keep More of What They Earn & Enjoy Better-Paying Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women’s Forum Senior Policy Analyst Patrice Onwuka issued the statement below following the passage of the House tax package:

"We are pleased that the House passed their bill to reform our tax code and deliver promised relief to American families. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a positive bill that will empower women and families to keep more of what they earn and enjoy better-paying jobs. The middle class is struggling today with too many living paycheck to paycheck. Lowering taxes for workers and cutting taxes for small businesses and corporations are pro-growth policies that will mean people have more money to spend and spur our economy to create better-paying opportunities. Simplifying our tax code is an important goal and we applaud Congress for working to eliminate many complicating provisions and create a more fair system."

IWF recently released Working for Women supplement on tax reform. The document explains why tax reform offers an extraordinary opportunity to help women succeed in today’s economy.

Additionally, Working for Women: A Modern Agenda for Improving Women’s Lives, a report released by IWF last year, details a slate of policy reforms to help more women and families, in which they have more control over the most pressing parts of their lives – including reforms to the tax code to benefit women in the workforce and society.
