INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S FORUM STATEMENT
SENATE ONE STEP CLOSER TO DELIVERING HISTORIC AND NEEDED TAX REFORM
Women and Families Can Look Forward to Increased Paychecks, Better-Paying Jobs, and Greater Opportunity
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women’s Forum Senior Policy Analyst Patrice Onwuka issued the statement below following the Senate Budget Committee approval of the tax bill, which party leaders hope to bring to the floor for a vote later this week:
"Independent Women's Forum is pleased that the Senate Budget Committee passed its bill to deliver historic and needed tax reform. Women and families can look forward to increased paychecks, better-paying jobs, and greater opportunity from individual and corporate tax cuts and critical reforms.
"This bill repeals the unpopular individual mandate which is simply a tax on the poor. It also includes an important provision from Senator Deb Fischer that would encourage more businesses to offer paid leave benefits to their employees.
IWF recently released Working for Women supplement on tax reform. The document explains why tax reform offers an extraordinary opportunity to help women succeed in today’s economy.
Additionally, Working for Women: A Modern Agenda for Improving Women’s Lives, a report released by IWF last year, details a slate of policy reforms to help more women and families, in which they have more control over the most pressing parts of their lives – including reforms to the tax code to benefit women in the workforce and society.

Independent Women's Forum is dedicated to developing and advancing policies that aren’t just well intended, but actually enhance people’s freedom, choices, and opportunities.
