Statement: IWF Applauds Roll Back of Clean Power Plan
Obama-Era Regulations Hiked Costs for Businesses with Virtually No Effect on Climate Change

Washington, DC — Independent Women's Forum Senior Policy Analyst Patrice Onwuka released the following statement in response to the Trump administration's proposal to roll back the Clean Power Plan:

"We're pleased that the Trump Administration is executing on a promise to roll back regulations that would have hiked costs for businesses and American families with virtually no effect on climate change.

"The Clean Power Plan was based on a questionable reading of the Clean Air Act. The Obama EPA used regulatory power to force states to reduce carbon emissions under threat of the loss of federal highway funds. This rollback returns to states the authority to decide what targets are best for their industries to meet if any.

"The United States was never the biggest driver of pollution. Yet, the Obama Administration sought to make our economy and households pay the price of cleaning up our air while bigger aggressors like China got a free pass on its dramatic increase in carbon emissions.

"Raising energy bills, especially for poor and minority communities, for little or no impact on the climate was a price too high."

IWF released a policy paper on the Clean Power Plan in 2015, detailing the plan, its economic costs, how much the average family would pay in taxes for the plan and how it would especially harm the poor and minority families, why it would have little impact on the climate, and more.
