Statement: Allegations Against Kavanaugh Must Be Evaluated Based on Evidence and Credibility
Washington, DC — Independent Women's Forum (IWF) Senior Fellow Jennifer Braceras released the following statement in response to the new allegations against Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh:
"As an organization of women, IWF takes seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. But as an organization committed to fairness and due process, IWF also understands that allegations cannot be accepted as true simply because they are made by a woman. All claims must be evaluated on the basis of the evidence and on the credibility of the accuser and the accused.
"From what we know so far, the allegations leveled against Judge Brett Kavanaugh on the eve of his confirmation to the United States Supreme Court are decades old, were not reported to anyone contemporaneously, have been denied by Judge Kavanaugh as well as by the only other person named by the accuser as a witness to the events, and consist of behavior that seems completely contrary to Brett Kavanaugh's character. Absent any additional evidence to support the accuser's claims, IWF stands with Judge Kavanaugh and calls upon the Senate to confirm him to the United States Supreme Court."
Independent Women's Forum was formed in 1992 during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
