IWF is delighted to welcome Dr. Qanta Ahmed to our team. Dr. Ahmed joins IWF as a Visiting Fellow who is a physician and pluralistic Muslim, who appears frequently on TV and whose commentary is widely sought.
She is the author of the acclaimed In the Land of the Invisible Woman: A Female Doctor’s Journey in the Saudi Kingdom, which recounts the British-trained Ahmed’s time as a physician in a hospital in Riyadh.
She is never afraid to take a gutsy stand. For example, Ahmed supports several European countries’ ban on the niqab. She argues that it is, in fact, not a requirement of Islam but rather a political symbol: "an anti-Western pro-Islamist political statement opposing secularism."
Meet Dr. Ahmed Below
A graduate of the University of Nottingham in Britain, Dr. Ahmed is the daughter of Pakistani Muslims who emigrated to the U.K. She lives in New York and is a board-certified specialist in sleep disorders. She has been called “an unlikely defender of Israel” and has urged the U.S. Department of State to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization. She made the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca while living in Saudi Arabia.
Welcome aboard, Dr. Ahmed!
