WASHINGTON, D.C. – Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) applauds the Senate Judiciary Committee’s 12 to 0 vote today to move forward with Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination, bringing her nomination to the floor of the U.S. Senate.

The full Senate plans to vote on Judge Barrett’s confirmation Monday, October 26, and the vote is expected to pass.

Carrie Lukas, president of IWF, issued the following statement:

“With her intellect and commitment to the rule of law on display, Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination hearings demonstrated why she will be a great jurist on the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett is a role model for women everywhere, rising to the top of her profession while being a devoted mother and wife. She is highly qualified, universally respected, independent-minded, and a fair judge, professor, and legal scholar. Independent Women’s Forum is thrilled that the Senate Judiciary Committee has moved forward with Judge Barrett’s nomination and looks forward to her swift confirmation as the next woman justice to serve on the Supreme Court.

“It’s shameful that the Democrats chose not to show up to vote on the nomination of this tremendously impressive woman and jurist. Had Republicans behaved like this when Justices Kagan or Sotomayor were being considered, the media would have called such a move sexist and in poor taste. It’s Progressive Privilege at its worst.”
