WASHINGTON, D.C.—Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) and Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) released the following statements on the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States:
Carrie Lukas, IWF president: “Today, we celebrate what’s great about America. America remains the land of opportunity, including for women and people of color. Kamala Harris, who will serve as our nation’s first female vice president, shows that every door is open to women and girls in this great country. The peaceful transition from one administration to the next is also a core American strength and continues today. Of course, millions of Americans have lost faith that the government, including our election system, operates fairly. But that is a cause that resumes tomorrow, and will be won through the battle of ideas and by advancing positive policy reforms.”
Tammy Bruce, IWV president: “While we all appreciate President-elect Joe Biden’s call for unity, true unity comes from people treating each other with respect and finding common ground. The current calls for unity seem to boil down into wanting conservatives and anyone who objects to the implementation of a radical progressive agenda to shut down. Silencing the opposition isn’t unity. It’s censorship and even oppression.”
