Feminist author and former Bill Clinton adviser Naomi Wolf is criticizing President Biden for continuing lockups and warning Americans of what she sees as an advancing “totalitarianism.”

Wolf made an astonishing appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show last night after tweeting this:

If I’d known Biden was open to ‘lockdowns’ as he now states, which is something historically unprecedented in any pandemic, and a terrifying practice, one that won’t ever end because elites love it, I would never have voted for him.

It was a fascinating interview. Carlson was obviously surprised to find himself in a non-adversarial interview with Wolf. Here is some of the Fox report on what Wolf said:

“That is not a partisan thing,” Wolf told Carlson. “That transcends everything that you and I might disagree or agree on. That should bring together left and right to protect our Constitution.” …

Wolf said she has interviewed U.S. citizens of various backgrounds and political affiliations who are in a state of “shock and horror” as “autocratic tyrants at the state and now the national level are creating this kind of merger of corporate power and government power, which is really characteristic of totalism fascism in the ’20’s,” she told Carlson.

“They are using that to engage in emergency orders that simply strip us of our rights; rights to property, rights to assembly, rights to worship, all of which rights the Constitution guarantees.

Wolf called the United State’s overall response to the coronavirus pandemic “completely unprecedented,” arguing that “lockdowns have never been done in society and really, we are turning into a version of a totalitarian state before everyone’s eyes.”

“I really hope we wake up quickly,” she said, “because history also shows that it’s a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.”

Wolf is worried about emergency powers:

“I’ve been studying closing democracies for twelve years so I recognized early on. Once I realized New York state had emergency powers I know from history that no one gives up emergency powers willingly…only from studying history do I know how predictable it is when you start to have elected officials say ‘we’re not going to follow the Constitution because there’s a pandemic.’”

In 20007 Wolf wrote a book entitled The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot. The headline on a piece Wolf wrote for the lefty Guardian at the time summed up the thesis: “Make America Fascist, in 10 Easy Steps.” The targets of the book were Hitler, Pinochet, and of course George W. Bush. The Wikipedia entry on the book lists Wolf’s ten steps to totalitarianism. She told Carlson that we have now, under a Democratic administration, reached step ten.

I’ve poked fun at Wolf before (she is the one who advised Al Gore on his wardrobe and wrote a book entitled Vagina: A Biography) but I went to bed last night and got up this morning thinking about Tucker Carlson’s interview with Wolf. She is one of the first (only?) on the left to break ranks with the rampant Biden worship.
