Independent contracting offers many workers the chance to be their own boss. They have the autonomy to work for whomever they want, whenever they want, and however they choose. According to research commissioned by Upwork and the Freelancers Union, nearly three out of four freelancers say freelancing allows them to work from anywhere. Legislation such as the federal Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, modeled after California’s devastating Assembly Bill5 (AB5), would eliminate preferred independent contracting opportunities.
