WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden announced executive actions that would place limits on the right to bear arms and make Americans less safe. President Biden’s proposals include tighter restrictions on “ghost guns”—homemade or makeshift guns—and stabilizers on pistols; a directive to the Justice Department to publish “red flag” laws that states would be encouraged to adopt; investments in community violence intervention programs; and the nomination of a anti-Second Amendment activist to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Julie Gunlock, director of the Center for Progress and Innovation at Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), issued the following statement:
“As we’ve seen over and over again, these measures do nothing to reduce gun violence but they do make people more vulnerable to criminals. People have a right to defend themselves, and the government should have no role in telling people how to do it. Biden’s EO will only embolden criminals and endanger law-abiding American lives.”
