Everyone loves the party game/icebreaker “two truths and a lie.”

Can you identify which of the following is NOT true about American Energy?

A. To fight climate change, the Biden administration says it wants to reduce U.S. oil and gas production by limiting reliance on fossil fuels.

B. With gas prices skyrocketing, the Biden Administration is now asking the foreign Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) oil cartel to pump more oil—a fossil fuel—so that U.S. gasoline prices can fall.

C. The Biden administration has saved American jobs in the oil and gas industry, prioritizing them over foreign OPEC jobs.

Let’s take these statements one at a time:

A: TRUTH! 

President Biden has called climate change “the existential crisis of our time” and, in April, pledged to halve U.S. emissions by 2030. To achieve this ambitious goal, Biden halted construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and put a moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal lands.

B: TRUTH! 

A White House spokesperson last week told the media it is putting pressure on OPEC and its allies, saying “We are not a party to these talks, but Administration officials have been engaged with relevant capitals to urge a compromise solution that will allow proposed production increases to move forward.”

C: LIE!

The Biden administration says it wants to reduce reliance on fossil fuel jobs, but rather than protecting American jobs in the oil and gas industry, it has prioritized foreign petroleum jobs over U.S. ones.

A Biden White House policy briefing stated “Creating jobs and tackling climate change go hand in hand – empowering the U.S. to build more resilient infrastructure, expand access to clean air and drinking water, spur American technological innovations, and create good-paying, union jobs along the way.”

Yet the Biden administration has destroyed American jobs by halting construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and putting a moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal lands. This happened even while the Biden White House removed sanctions against Russia’s Nord Stream 2, a natural gas pipeline being built under the Baltic Sea connecting Russia and Germany. This not only kills American jobs, but it aids Russia and OPEC countries and makes Americans more reliant on foreign energy.
