Facebook is taking a lot of heat this week following revelations from a former employee that it puts business ahead of doing what’s best for society (however, the whistleblower defines “best.”)
Beyond algorithms and content moderation, the tech company faces other criticism about the lack of diversity among the people working there. I wish we were referring to philosophical and socioeconomic diversity, but most critics are referring to race and gender.
Many people (including the higher-ups at the company) assume that the company is failing to be reflective of society based on the superficial metrics of skin color and sex, but there’s always more to the story.
