WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released the next video in its documentary series, “Identity Crisis.” The series tells the stories of four mothers whose daughters fell victim to gender ideology, two detransitioners who now warn of the harms of socially and medically transitioning, and one mental health professional who rails against her profession for prioritizing political correctness over public health. The full length documentary will be released this fall.
The latest “mini documentary” tells the story of Jennifer, whose daughter first identified as transgender at 10 years old. At the time, her parents thought it was harmless identity exploration. But the Washington public school that Jennifer’s daughter attended quickly worked to affirm her male identity — against Jennifer and her husband’s wishes. A male teacher even asked their daughter to room in the boy’s cabin on a three-night field trip.
Jennifer’s suspicion that her daughter’s ‘male identity’ wasn’t genuine proved true less than two years later when her daughter let go of it. Now, with educators, politicians, health professionals, and the media all pressuring parents to affirm their children’s gender identities, Jennifer warns that there is another possible outcome if a child is not affirmed. An outcome that doesn’t subject children to a lifetime of harmful medical procedures.
“Children are cutting off their healthy breasts and testicles and doing things to their bodies that they can’t undo,” Jennifer said in the documentary. “Of course parents are concerned when their children identify this way because it carries a heavy medical burden which they will have for the rest of their life. They become sewn to the medical industrial complex. They will have to take drugs. They will probably have to have other surgeries. We don’t even know all the health consequences at this point. It’s an experiment happening right now on children.”
Kelsey Bolar, senior policy analyst at IWF and executive producer of the series, said, “Public schools are consciously going against parents’ wishes and transitioning young children in secret, under the false premise that they know what’s best for the child. But government institutions don’t know what’s best for a child; the child’s parents do,” Bolar said, adding, “Jennifer’s story of her daughter quickly letting go of her transgender identity, despite the school encouraging it, is a chilling example of our nation’s public schools working against parents at the expense of children in pursuit of a dangerous, misguided ideology.”
