In June, the Department of Education proposed new rules that purport to enforce Title IX, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. On September 12, Independent Women’s Law Center (“IWLC”) filed five specific objections to the proposal.

In its comment on the implications for parental rights, IWLC outlined the ways in which the proposed rule encourages schools to hide important health information from students’ own parents and to parents out of critical decision-making regarding their children, portraying loving homes as potentially abusive and creating conflicts with other federal and state laws that protect parental rights.
