WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released the seventh video in its documentary series, “Identity Crisis.”

The latest 8-minute documentary tells the story of Dr. Miriam Grossman, a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist who treats gender-confused children and their families in her private New York practice. Dr. Grossman stands out among medical professionals, who almost uniformly support gender-affirming care. Instead of putting children onto what she calls “the transgender assembly line,” Dr. Grossman says doctors must do a better job exploring the underlying medical conditions that children experiencing gender confusion often face.

Many children facing gender confusion have comorbidities, she explains, which can include anxiety, depression, autism, or a slew of other mental health issues. Of great concern, Dr. Grossman warns, is the trend of doctors and mental health experts overlooking these issues and using “gender-affirming care” as a superficial solution, while leaving the underlying issues untreated.

“It’s critical to be looking at those other issues that they have and not just to be automatically putting them onto an assembly line — the transgender assembly line, that this is what’s going on with you, you need to be socially affirmed, you need to go in the direction of hormones,” she said.

Many medical centers like Planned Parenthood and Boston Children’s Hospital’s gender clinic continue to promote such treatments, despite studies showing that an average of 80% of children who developed gender dysphoria before puberty reach a point of acceptance of their bodies when they go through natural puberty.

Grossman says, “That’s a piece of information that my colleagues are not giving parents and are not giving kids. It’s malfeasance.”

As for why she continues to speak out regardless of the risks to her career, Dr. Grossman said, “I know too much to not do anything about this. I know what kids are going through. I know that 13-year-old girls are having their breasts removed. Minor boys are being castrated. We can’t accept it, and we can’t be complicit in the lie by staying silent.”

IWF’s “Identity Crisis” series tells the stories of mothers whose daughters fell victim to gender ideology, detransitioners who now warn of the harms of socially and medically transitioning, and Dr. Grossman, a mental health professional who rails against her profession for prioritizing political correctness over public health.

Kelsey Bolar, senior policy analyst at IWF and executive producer of the series, said, “With the nation’s most powerful medical organizations pressuring the Biden administration and social media companies to silence critics of gender ideology, Dr. Grossman is a brave voice standing up for science and children. Her perspective as a psychiatrist who treats gender-confused children and their families is essential to an honest debate about how to best protect children, yet rarely are people willing to listen to experts with dissenting opinions on this issue. By featuring Dr. Grossman in our Identity Crisis series, we hope to change that and elevate her voice.”
