Student achievement scores across the country have plummeted to historically low levels. Yet the teachers unions that exerted their political power to keep schools closed are harming students by focusing on activism rather than academics. 

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the nation’s second-largest teachers union, regularly prioritizes politics over students. Of the AFT resolutions from 2022 and 2023, 90% relate to racial activism, political campaigning, transgender policies, radical “climate justice”, and several other topics unrelated to education. The teachers unions are the primary force behind the ills in K-12 public schools. Achievement scores are just one of the many victims of the unions’ pernicious actions.
