WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released the eleventh video in its documentary series, “Identity Crisis.” The series tells the authentic stories of detransitioners who now warn of the harms of socially and medically transitioning, mothers whose daughters fell victim to gender ideology, and a mental health professional who rails against her profession for prioritizing political correctness over public health.
The latest documentary tells the story of Isabelle Ayala, a female detransitioner from Florida, who is suing the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and her healthcare providers, alleging civil conspiracy, fraud, and medical malpractice.
After suffering severe sexual abuse, Isabelle discovered transgender ideology online at 11 years old and believed that identifying as a boy would resolve the hatred she felt for her female body. At 14, Isabelle began her medical transition under the guidance of Dr. Jason Rafferty, MD, MPH, EdM and Chair of the AAP’s LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Committee. After Isabelle left Rhode Island and moved back to Florida, Dr. Rafferty prescribed her a year’s worth of testosterone hormone therapy at 15 years old.
“We were left to our own devices to find a doctor that would continue my care,” Isabelle says in the documentary. “I think my insurance not covering the surgeries kind of saved my life in a way.” Isabelle is now 20 years old and living as a woman, but she still suffers from chronic pain and fatigue as a result of the purported treatment.
Kelsey Bolar, senior policy analyst at IWF and executive producer of the series, said, “Anyone with a heart will want to cry after watching Isabelle’s story of alleged mistreatment and abandonment by some of the most prominent experts in the field of ‘gender medicine.’ Sending children down this path is cruelty cloaked in kindness, and it’s long past time that those responsible face consequences. Isabelle is incredibly brave for taking on this fight by suing her providers and the AAP, and IWF is honored to tell her story.”
