Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) employees are joining the nation’s second-largest teachers union, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
According to the Wisconsin Examiner, a union certification vote will be scheduled at a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) hearing next week. Planned Parenthood workers will then join the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (WFNHP), a union that is affiliated with AFT Nurses and Health Professionals, the national healthcare division of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
Vermont’s Planned Parenthood employees are also members of AFT’s health care division. The teachers union, which is led by Randi Weingarten, boasts that AFT Nurses and Health Professionals “has grown to represent 200,000 health professionals across a wide variety of disciplines and settings… with a significant presence in Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.”
