Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio has been tapped to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential run. Vance has represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate since 2023 and has served on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging. 

Here are 10 fast legislative facts about VP Candidate Vance:

#1: Co-sponsored Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to overturn Biden’s unlawful Title IX rewrite. 

  • IWV’s Stand with Women Commitment urges policy leaders to promise to support legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces. 

#2: Sponsored the College Endowment Accountability Act which would raise the excise tax on bloated university endowments to ensure that universities “pay their fair share” and foot the bill for any college debt crisis solution. 

  • This legislation would advance the policy recommendations proposed in Independent Women’s Forum’s (IWF) Policy Focus published in July 2023 titled “Taxing Universities.”

3#: Introduced the Safeguarding American Education from Foreign Control Act, to tighten the enforcement of rules surrounding foreign donations to higher education institutions and contracts with foreign entities.

#4: Introduced the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which would ban the genital mutilation, chemical castration, and sterilization of innocent children by classifying the performance of so-called “gender-affirming care” on a minor as a Class C felony.

#7: Introduced The Passport Sanity Act, which would prohibit the Secretary of State from issuing a passport, passport card, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad that includes the unspecified “X” gender designation. It would also require the Secretary to ensure that each application for such a document includes only male and female sex designations.
