WASHINGTON D.C. — Latino voters helped deliver a decisive victory for President-elect Trump, turning out in record numbers on Election Day in support of policies that will ensure a safe and secure border, privacy and safety in women’s sports, and education freedom. Judy Pino, Spanish-language spokesperson for Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) and Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), issued the following statement:
“Latino voters are not driven by political ideology; they vote based on the issues that impact their daily lives—and this election proved it.
“The Latino community, like all Americans, value policies that promote economic growth, public safety, and opportunities for their families. Every single poll pointed to the economy and border security as top issues for the Hispanic community. Although Latinos traditionally favor the Democratic Party, there was a seismic shift towards more conservative policies as the values of the Democratic Party no longer aligned with theirs.
“Latino voters swung toward Trump by an overwhelming 25 percentage points compared with four years ago, especially Latino men, who backed Trump by 10 points. They also helped deliver key states like Florida and Texas, flip the House, and pick up seats in the Senate.
“Recent remarks made by Sunny Hostin, a co-host on ‘The View,’ accusing Latinos of ‘misogyny and sexism’ for not voting for Kamala Harris reflect a fundamental misunderstanding on the Left of the Latino community. It’s worth noting that Latin America has a rich history of female leadership, with numerous women serving as presidents since the late 20th century, including in Peru and Mexico, both of which currently have female presidents. This election wasn’t about sex; it was about failed policies over the past four years which made everyone’s life harder, especially for the Latino community.
“With their growing numbers and influence, Latinos have shown that they are not just part of America, they are America, and share the same concerns that keep us all up at night. Latinos will be watching our elected officials to ensure they keep their promises and deliver policies that allow everyone to achieve their American Dream.”
