The United Nations was founded in 1945 to “maintain international peace and security, and to promote cooperation among nations.” The initial 15-member UN Council was formed to prevent a recurrence of the actions that led to World War II—the deadliest conflict in recorded human history.

In theory, the UN was positioned to provide effective alternatives to the mass bloodshed and loss of life that had occurred with the First and Second World Wars. However, its ability to actually provide positive outcomes through its international investigations, sanctions, laws, and even military action, has left many nations and leaders questioning the UN’s effectiveness.

The Hypocrisy of the United Nations

The UN’s response (or lack thereof) to the atrocious terrorist attacks of October 7th and the subsequent holding of Israeli hostages by Hamas, has many questioning the UN’s allegiance, mission, and overall agenda. How could an organization that supposedly champions human rights remain silent on the murders, dismemberment, and widespread rapes of women that occurred on that day—the deadliest day in Jewish history since the Holocaust?

The UN spoke out against acts of violence against women in other countries—just not Israel. Using rape as a weapon of war isn’t a crime, if it’s against Jewish women? How hypocritical from the organization that was literally founded as part of the collective response to recovering internationally from World War II—a war that was fought against the Nazis—a group of people responsible for murdering over 6 million Jews!

The UN’s Role in Supporting Hamas Terrorists

Since October 7th, the UN’s response has largely sided with the terrorists—Hamas—and the people who aid this terrorist group in the ongoing horrors and a multitude of crimes that they are actively committing against hostages. Recent images of the few hostages that were recently handed over in the ceasefire deal (which Hamas subsequently broke days later) were haunting reflections of the images of Nazi concentration camp survivors—emaciated, brutalized, and struggling to walk or stand. And yet, the UN continues to support the hate-filled terrorist group and people who harbor them.

Just when we thought the UN’s failure to take action against the ongoing human rights violations of Hamas, Palestine, and their supporters was bad enough, the world realized there was a greater depth to the UN’s ongoing hypocrisy of championing human rights, peace, and safety. Hostages that were taken on October 7th, were held by Hamas in a UN camp in Palestine. While the free world fought for the hostages’ release, the UN facilitated the continued torture of these innocent people—including women and children—by Hamas.

The UN’s Failure to Support Women

The UN’s actions over the past 500 days have communicated their resolve to support terrorist groups such as Hamas. These enemies of Israel, America, and the democratic world, have breached an institution that is charged with protecting human rights, and the effects of such dangerous influence are now evidenced throughout the Middle East, many parts of Europe, and even on our own college and university campuses in the United States. The UN should be held accountable for its ongoing failures and demonstrated corruption.

The hostages taken on October 7th came from many different countries—Israel, Germany, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Argentina, France, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, China, the Philippines, and the United States of America. The egregious and ongoing acts of violence that occurred at the hands of Hamas are the very violent acts of war the UN should be taking a stand against. Instead, they have embedded themselves with the enemy.

Holding the UN Accountable for their Actions

The attacks of October 7th occurred in Israel; however, the effects of this brutality, coupled with its global-scale impacts both involving citizens from multiple countries and a far-reaching span of violent antisemitism should make us all pay attention. What if we were one of the hostages? How would the UN respond to ensure our safety? Given their track record over the past 500 days, they would support the barbarians that took us.

The UN should be held accountable for its actions and should return to its mission instead of aiding and abetting rapist, murderous, kidnapping terrorists chanting “From the river to the sea” while committing some of the worst human rights violations of our generation.
