WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Independent Women recognizes Women’s History Month, honoring the stories of women who continue to shape America and protect the rights that generations of women fought so hard to secure, including the right to single-sex spaces and equal opportunities.
Carrie Lukas, president of Independent Women, said, “Women and girls are making history in 2025. They are advancing change across this great country. We are so proud to be partnering with women. Our mantra is Tell Her Story; Change the World. This year we are laser focused on telling women’s stories to show how lower taxes and less government red tape will allow them to start or grow their small businesses; why they want school choice and real control over their children’s education; how they want to be their own bosses and have the freedom to work as independent contractors; and how they demand women’s-only spaces and opportunities. These stories can bring about real, lasting change. We are so grateful to all the women out there who are stepping up, speaking out, and making our country freer, safer, and better than ever before.”
Kaylee McGhee White, editor-in-chief of IW Features, said: “No one knows better than those of us at Independent Women the impact women have when they make their voices heard. This Women’s History Month, Independent Women continues our commitment to amplifying the voices of female change-makers and empowering them to share their stories. From female athletes fighting for their sex-based rights, to small business owners fighting crippling government regulations, to moms fighting to restore transparency and accountability in their children’s education system, every single storyteller has the power to change her community, and this country, for the better. Independent Women will be there to fight alongside them—and for them.”
Beth Parlato, senior legal advisor for Independent Women, “In honoring Women’s History Month, we acknowledge the pivotal role women have played in shaping the legal landscape. Women have fought for the protection of their rights under the law, and Independent Women’s Law Center exists to protect those rights and continue the fight for the preservation for future generations. We will stand with women against laws and policies that aim to chip away at these hard-fought truths. We continue to hold partisan judges accountable through litigation in key areas such as single-sex spaces, women-only sports, sex-based discrimination, DEI policies and the protection of parental rights in education and healthcare. IWLC celebrates women’s uniqueness and considers it a privilege to uphold and advocate for laws and policies that recognize women and men are legally equal but are not interchangeable.”
Patrice Onwuka, director of Independent Women’s Center for Economic Opportunity, said: “Women’s progress in America economically is undeniable. About half of the U.S. workforce is female. Women own 12 million businesses, comprising about 40% of all enterprises in America. They dominate many occupations that shape our lives such as teachers, speech pathologists, counselors, and Human Resource professionals. Women enjoy boundless opportunities and pathways to craft the careers and lives they desire. They have the freedom to choose the best work arrangements for themselves and their families. That is a freedom we must protect at all costs. Independent Women oppose special interests that seek to rig the system against entrepreneurs and new competition. We stand against policymakers that seek to strip away the employment choices women enjoy or to bury their enterprises in costly, crippling regulations . We will fight to preserve the blessings of free enterprise for women of all walks of life.”
Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety & Security, said: “For too long, multilateral international institutions have promised protection but delivered little for the women and girls who bear the brunt of war, oppression, and violence. From Afghanistan to Ukraine, their suffering is met with statements instead of action. If we truly believe in their worth, we must move beyond outdated frameworks that have failed them and reimagine how we champion their security, dignity, and freedom. Courage is not just standing with them in words—it is fighting for them in deeds.”
Gabby Hoffman, director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy & Conservation, said: “American energy policies focusing on abundance, reliability, and security allow women to flourish in both work and home life. This can be simultaneously prioritized without undermining conservation practices. Energy is integral to all facets of life, and women will benefit from energy policies that usher in cheaper fuel, electricity, food, and transportation costs. From championing reliable forms of energy like oil, gas, and nuclear to protecting household appliances, Independent Women’s Center for Energy and Conservation will continue to champion smart policies that enhance quality of life and economic growth.”
Judy Pino, spokesperson and strategic advisor on Hispanic affairs, said: “This Women’s History Month, we honor the resilience and contributions of Latinas who are shaping America’s future. Rooted in faith, family, and hard work, Latinas are building businesses, supporting their families, and strengthening communities. Today, over 1.5 million Latina-owned businesses are driving economic growth while also creating opportunities for future generations. Latinas are not just entrepreneurs—they are leaders, mentors, and changemakers who embody the values of perseverance, dedication, and the pursuit of opportunity. At Independent Women, we’re protecting women’s spaces, championing a strong gig economy, and pushing for healthcare transparency—initiatives that give Latinas more opportunities to thrive. When women have the freedom to work, compete, and make informed choices, they uplift their families, communities, and the next generation. By telling their stories, we celebrate their impact and continue the fight for policies that empower all women to succeed.”
Independent Women is leading the fight for women by championing the preeminent civil rights issue of our time: protecting women’s single-sex spaces. This year, Independent Women has gained attention as the original architect of President Trump’s day-one executive order to define ‘woman,’ and a key voice behind his Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports Executive Order. Independent Women’s “Stand With Women” initiative continues to drive sweeping pro-woman victories nationwide, including with U.S. House bipartisan passage of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, paving the way for its Senate companion.
Independent Women believes telling women’s stories can change the world. IW Features, the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, has provided a platform for hundreds of voices to expose the reality of anti-women policies, not only when it comes to women’s sports but also job-killing regulations and economic hardship, international women’s rights, and the impacts of illegal immigration compromising women’s safety—building support for pro-women, pro-fairness, and pro-safety policies across the country.
