WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, ahead of President Donald J. Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress, Independent Women champions the President’s work to renew the American Dream by standing with women and biological reality, restoring common sense, prioritizing a safe and secure border, advancing peace through strength around the globe, unleashing American energy, and working to fix a broken economy:

Beth Parlato, senior legal advisor for Independent Women, said: “President Trump is working tirelessly to implement his agenda to restore the fundamental tenets of our country. His swift executive actions have focused on upholding and strengthening the rule of law and have shown his resolve to safeguard the integrity of American democracy. The American people have mandated policies that restore our commitment to protect our constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties. Our law center looks forward to hearing the President assure the nation that we have returned to truth and justice.”

Patrice Onwuka, director of Independent Women’s Center for Economic Opportunity, said: “President Trump has taken swift action to rightsize the federal government saving taxpayers money and reignite investment in America. Cutting federal regulations will release small businesses, especially the 12 million women-owned enterprises, from costly, growth limiting burdens and encourage increased supply of goods to bring down costs. We look forward to hearing progress on this front. Most importantly, we look to President Trump to explain to Americans how truly critical it is for Congress to make permanent his historic 2017 tax cuts. If Congress does not act, households earning the median income will see taxes rise by over $1,600. The Child Tax Credit will be cut in half for working moms and dads. The top tax rate will rise to a whopping 43% for small businesses. And most Americans will lose a chunk of their paychecks to taxes starting January 1st. Making life more affordable includes keeping taxes low for hardworking Americans and building upon his previous tax cuts which lifted millions of people out of poverty and prospered Americans households.”

Meaghan Mobbs, director of Independent Women’s Center for American Safety & Security, said: “President Trump listened to the American people and recognized that open borders and unchecked illegal immigration pose a serious threat. His decisive actions to secure the border have resulted in the lowest level of illegal crossings in the U.S. Southwest in 25 years and a 94% decrease in crossings compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the President’s expressed desire to reorient our foreign aid dollars and tie them to our national security objectives is long overdue and a welcome change. We look to his leadership to not discard the good while trying to eliminate the bad, as America must lead with both our military might and the power of our ideas. President Trump has the opportunity to deliver a full-throated affirmation of American exceptionalism—the belief that the United States holds a unique and unparalleled role in the world. This conviction is not rooted in nostalgia but in the reality that America’s greatness is both real and reclaimable. He can reassure the American people that we are not retreating from the world but leading from a position of strength—unapologetically, free from bureaucratic inertia, and unshackled from global institutions that seek to dilute American sovereignty.”

Gabby Hoffman, director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy & Conservation, said: “President Trump has a unique opportunity to highlight his energy dominance agenda during today’s joint speech before Congress. He must reassure the American people that relief at the pumps, in utility bills, food costs, and transportation is possible through deregulation and cost-cutting. Our Center for Energy and Conservation hopes he’ll highlight early administrative actions and showcase how his goals to boost domestic energy production won’t despoil the environment.”

Kaylee McGhee White, editor-in-chief of IW Features, said: “President Trump already has made it clear through various executive actions that he is not only listening to the Americans who sent him to the White House with a mandate, but that he is also committed to making sure everyone else in Washington, D.C. listens to them too. From female athletes who were robbed of their right to fair and safe competition, to heartbroken families who lost loved ones due to unchecked illegal immigration, Trump has signaled the stories of these Americans matter. Here at Independent Women, we could not agree more – and we likewise are committed to ensuring these stories are not forgotten or ignored.”

Independent Women Ambassador, Payton McNabb, will join First Lady Melania Trump and President Trump at the U.S. Capitol when President Trump delivers his address to a joint session of Congress.
