ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Today, Independent Women Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, is sharing the story of Patrick Kimbell, a retired Navy sailor living in New Mexico who lost his relationship with his daughter after she chose to embrace gender ideology and pursue medicalization.
Kimbell had been estranged from his daughter for 10 years following a tumultuous divorce, until they reconnected in 2020. The gender ideology movement promoted by states like New Mexico had an impact on Kimbell’s daughter, who allegedly pursued medicalization through hormones and a double mastectomy. When Kimbell was unable to give his daughter money immediately, she cut him off, and she has not spoken to him since.
Kimbell told IW Features, “The only way I know how to say this — she had a very militaristic view. And this is when I started seeing the indoctrination…where it’s like, ‘Either you accept me for who I am or you don’t accept me at all.’”
Kimbell shared with IW Features that he believes that progressive states such as New Mexico’s radical commitment to gender ideology are largely to blame for his daughter’s suffering. As a firsthand witness to the academic neglect suffered by his daughter, Kimbell said that school devolution into political activism is “ruining our children.”

Parents deserve the right to protect their children from irreversible harm, which is why we will continue to expose the devastating consequences of our nation’s most extreme laws.”

Patrick’s story is a tragedy of a father left helpless and defeated by radical blue state policies, such as that in his home state of New Mexico, that led his daughter down the dangerous gender rabbit hole and into invasive medicalization.”
