SANTA FE, NM – Today, Independent Women unveils poll results that highlight New Mexicans overwhelmingly disagree with the “gender transition” of children. The polling is a representative sample of New Mexican voters.
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of New Mexicans disagree with the statement, “Minors (under age 18) in New Mexico should have access to puberty blockers,” while 64% of New Mexicans agree with the statement that they would be more likely to support legislation “to prevent minors from taking ‘gender-affirming care’ in the form of life-altering drugs before the age of 18.”
In addition to survey questions about wrong-sex hormones and the mutilation of children’s healthy bodies, New Mexicans were asked about the role of parental consent in these medical decisions.
Eighty-eight percent (88%) of New Mexicans disagree with the statement, “Teachers and school nurses should be able to ‘transition children’ without their parents knowing,” and seventy-seven (77%) of New Mexicans answered “concerned” when told that, “New Mexico laws fast-track children under 18 to life-long transgender-related medical treatments without their parents’ concern.”

“Once again we see enormous misalignment between the current laws that exist in New Mexico and what New Mexicans actually want. This recent polling shows that whether you are a Democrat or Republican, there is unanimous opposition to mutilating children. There is no world where children should be fast-tracked to lifelong medicalization—period—but particularly without their parents’ consent and involvement. Shame on New Mexico’s elected officials for ignoring the will of the people. I truly do hope New Mexicans hold them accountable,” said Jordanne Kemper, director of state affairs at Independent Women.
The release of the New Mexico polling results also comes on the heels of President Trump’s executive order to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children in America and restore the true meaning of “care” for America’s youngest generation. These poll results, in addition to President Trump’s executive order, reflect the growing movement of individuals across the country who want to prevent other young people from suffering the consequences of pervasive gender ideology extremism.
Spearheading this movement have been detransitioners and Independent Women ambassadors who have bravely shared their personal experiences and intimate details through Independent Women’s grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm, IW Features.
