WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women issued a cease-and-desist letter to trans-advocacy organization GLAAD after the group published multiple, injurious falsehoods about Independent Women and Payton McNabb, an ambassador for Independent Women, over their pro-woman stance. GLAAD issued these claims in a press release responding to McNabb’s attendance as President Trump’s guest to his Joint Address to Congress earlier this month. Independent Women demands immediate correction and for GLAAD to immediately cease and desist the dissemination of inaccurate communications mischaracterizing the organization’s work and smearing its support for women and for equality..

GLAAD disparaged Independent Women with its claims that Independent Women’s actions fail to protect women, that Independent Women is an “anti-transgender group” that “aggressively lobbies against transgender people,” and that Payton McNabb is being paid to argue that trans-identifying youth should be denied opportunities to play sports.

Watch President Trump’s remarks about Payton McNabb here.

Independent Women exists to fight for women by expanding support for policy solutions that aren’t just well intended, but actually preserve and enhance opportunity and well-being. Beth Parlato, senior legal advisor for Independent Women’s Law Center, said in the letter, “We may have differing viewpoints on how to achieve this, yet instead of respectful dialogue on the issues, GLADD falsely labeled Independent Women and our work. Independent Women advocates for the protection of women by maintaining female-only spaces such as prisons, locker rooms, shower rooms and rape crisis centers, as consistent with women’s protected constitutional rights.”

The letter states that should GLAAD fail to comply with the above demands, appropriate legal action may follow.
