WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, is sharing the story of L.M. Caheb* a former United States Secret Service (USSS) agent of nearly 30 years who claims he was overlooked for a larger role in the agency because of the Biden administration’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) agenda. (*The name has been changed to protect the storyteller’s identity.)
During his tenure at the USSS, Caheb climbed the ladder to become a GS- 14 supervisor, which signifies elite leadership status. When he pursued a reassignment in 2022, Caheb said he was passed over for the position for less qualified agents despite “checking all the boxes.”
Caheb, who was a USSS agent for 26 years, told IW Features, “They ended up going with two other individuals that were much younger, less qualified, and lower-ranked than me. This was a blatant disregard of the merit principles. I had been passed over before, but it didn’t sting –– this stung because it was so obviously political. I was very upset.”
Caheb blamed the agency’s deviation from its merit values on the Biden Administration’s leadership and “bad actors” within the agency who focused more on the demographic profiles of agents rather than their qualifications. President Donald Trump’s near assassination last year brought this tokenism to the public eye, Caheb said, adding the failures of the agency in Butler, Pennsylvania, that day were really “the failures of DEI.”
Caheb told IW Features, “It’s offensive to the truly qualified females on the job that have a hard enough time proving that they earned their spot in an organization. Whenever you have a token unqualified female person screwing up like what you saw in Butler, it undermines the credibility, makes it harder for the other members in the group, and it feeds the narratives of stereotypes.”
While the consequences of the DEI agenda in the USSS are likely to remain for some time, Caheb said the new leadership must make it a priority to reverse the damage of DEI policies to restore the agency’s credibility and ensure the success of future missions.
Andrea Mew, managing editor for IW Features, said: “The Biden administration’s DEI agenda was an internal sabotage that, if left unchecked, can erode our nation’s strength from within. L.M. Caheb’s stories from his time in the U.S. Secret Service makes one thing clear: DEI doesn’t just harm men — it puts everyone in danger. The American people deserve a USSS that selects its best and brightest for hiring and promotion, not one that hands out positions based on sex or race. Clearly, these DEI practices have marred the integrity of institutions like the Secret Service for years, but it doesn’t have to stay this way. The Trump administration can and should use its power to course correct and restore merit-based practices.”
