WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Independent Women applauds President Donald J. Trump’s Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry Executive Order to boost U.S. coal production, delivering on his promise to reinvigorate America’s energy industry and restore jobs for the men and women who make it work.

Gabriella Hoffman, director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy and Conservation, issued the following statement:

“Independent Women Center for Energy and Conservation applauds today’s executive order to unleash new American coal production. Coal is currently the third largest electricity generation source in the U.S. after natural gas and nuclear. Coal produced in the U.S. is cleaner and, overall, better for the environment compared to coal imported from abroad. Coal and its byproducts, especially steel, will be needed to shore up more energy infrastructure projects.

“Onerous Obama-era regulations stifled this industry and displaced thousands of people from their jobs. Coal, like natural gas and nuclear, will not only spur economic development but also help meet growing electricity demand – especially for AI data centers – as an abundant, reliable, and secure source.

“Designating coal as a critical mineral is a great step to spur new coal production here at home and ensure existing coal plants supplying reliable energy aren’t shut down for political reasons. Our Center commends the actions taken today and hopes to be a resource for the Trump administration.”
