WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Independent Women, which is dedicated to advancing policies that actually enhance opportunity and well-being, applauds President Donald J. Trump’s executive order to restore safety and order in American classrooms by ensuring school discipline policies are based on objective behavior, not DEI.
Neeraja Deshpande, Independent Women policy analyst and engagement coordinator, who previously taught middle school and high school math, English, and financial literacy, said:
“Teachers cite student behavior as the number one reason they leave the profession—this isn’t because they’re bad at managing classrooms, but because terrible policies since the Obama administration have tied their hands in their own classrooms and made giving consequences next to impossible. President Trump’s executive order changes this: it ensures that schools enforce student discipline and helps create better school environments that are in the best interests of both teachers and the students they serve.”
On May 1, 2025, Independent Women will be releasing a report titled “Give Teachers a Break: Cutting Red Tape to Unleash the Potential of America’s Great Teachers.” The report will discuss:
- Why the nation is losing its most effective teachers;
- How misguided policies—not educators—are sabotaging student success; and
- Practical, commonsense reforms to restore order, trust, and excellence in our classrooms.
