WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, President Trump signed executive orders to strengthen and protect law enforcement and remove federal support to end the failures of “sanctuary cities.” These orders prioritizing the safety of Americans come in advance of National Police Week, which begins Sunday, May 11.
Meaghan Mobbs, director of the Center for American Safety and Security at Independent Women, said:
“As Director of the Center for American Safety and Security at Independent Women, I strongly support President Trump’s Executive Order, ‘Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens,’ signed April 28, 2025.
“This order is a bold reminder that the first duty of government is to protect its citizens—and that starts with standing behind the brave men and women who wear the badge.”
Independent Women applauds two sections in particular for their clarity, courage, and commitment.
Section 2: Legal Defense for Officers
By directing the Attorney General to provide legal support to officers unfairly targeted for simply doing their jobs, this provision recognizes the reality on the ground: law enforcement is under siege—not just from criminals, but from a political and legal system that too often punishes them for acting decisively.
“When officers are afraid to act, communities suffer,” said Mobbs. “When officers are backed and protected, they do their jobs with confidence—and we’re all safer for it. Women especially understand the stakes. We want neighborhoods where our kids can play outside, walk to school, and grow up free from fear.”
“This is a game-changer,” she added.
Section 3: More Support, Less Red Tape
This section directs federal agencies to get serious about helping law enforcement—not hinder them. It means better training, higher pay, stronger legal protections, tougher sentences for those who harm officers, and a critical review of bureaucratic consent decrees that too often tie cops’ hands while crime continues.
It also calls for data-driven improvements to how we track and fight crime—so resources go where they’re needed most and Americans have transparent crime statistics free from political bias.
The Bottom Line
Safe communities aren’t a luxury—they’re a prerequisite for everything else. Economic growth. Family stability. Freedom.
“President Trump’s action sends the message women across this country have been waiting to hear: We will protect those who protect us. We will not let politics get in the way of public safety. And we will always choose law and order over fear and lawlessness,” said Mobbs.
Independent Women is proud to support this commonsense, courageous action.
