WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women, a leading national women’s organization dedicated to advancing policies that enhance opportunity and well-being, released the following statement praising President Trump’s executive orders—Reinvigorating the Nuclear Industrial Base and Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission—that will expand nuclear energy production in the United States:

Gabriella Hoffman, director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy and Conservation, said:

“Independent Women Center for Energy and Conservation applauds the Trump-Vance administration for supercharging American nuclear energy production. We must lead globally here and not cede to China and Russia further.

“Nuclear power plants are 93% reliable throughout the year, produce near-zero emissions, and only occupy small tracts of lands compared to utility-scale solar and wind. Dispatchable, reliable baseload power like nuclear energy is required to meet rising electricity demand and to help lower energy prices. This is why more Americans, including 51% of women per a new Gallup poll, are embracing it.

“Across the last decade, at least 12 nuclear reactors have closed down in the name of fighting climate change. New projects, including small modular reactors, have been held back by red tape, onerous regulations, and lawsuits from radical environmentalists. This benefits our adversaries China and Russia, who are rapidly building more nuclear plants.

“The Center applauds the Trump-Vance administration for prioritizing this reliable clean energy source. The actions taken today will help speed up construction of new nuclear facilities without despoiling the environment.”
