WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, released a written profile featuring Dr. Henry Mosley, a Johns Hopkins professor who spoke with IW Features about gender ideology’s devastating impact on young people, particularly on his granddaughter Prisha Mosley, an Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner.
In 1959, Henry Mosley was a medical resident at Johns Hopkins University. Just six years earlier, Alfred Kinsey, a notorious sex researcher, published a two-part scholarly paper that defined “gender identity” as a spectrum for the first time. Five decades later, Mosley faced Kinsey’s radical ideology head-on when his then-16-year-old granddaughter Prisha began self-identifying as transgender.
“I called her counselor, who just completely put me off. She said I didn’t know what I was talking about,” Mosley told IW Features, noting that his son Jonathan Mosley, who’s a physician, “also spoke with [Prisha’s counselor], but there was nothing we could do to persuade her that Prisha was mentally ill.”
Mosley explained to IW Features that his granddaughter’s counselor insisted that Prisha’s distress was the result of an unaffirmed “trans” identity, despite his observation that “[Prisha] was attempting suicide, cutting herself, and having all kinds of serious mental health problems.”
“[Gender ideology] is like a cult or a religion, and you can’t persuade people who have certain religious beliefs that they are contrary to science,” he said.

Ashley McClure, assistant editor for Independent Women Features and profile author, said: “Dr. Mosley’s perspective is invaluable as we enter into a new era of detransitioner lawsuits. From the first time Prisha’s therapist diagnosed her with gender dysphoria—completely ignoring all evidence to the contrary—Mosley knew that the so-called “care” Prisha was receiving was actually medical malpractice, and he has been urging his fellow medical professionals to wake up to this reality ever since. Hopefully, the medical community will listen and abandon the sinking ship that is gender medicine.”
Prisha Mosley, Independent Women ambassador and detransitioner, said: “I’m grateful that people in my family are listening to me and care about the damage that happened. People trust doctors, but recently, doctors working with patients who claim to be trans have been dishonest and harmful.”
IW Features’ “Identity Crisis: Real Stories About Escaping Gender Ideology” series features stories from detransitioners, experts, and parents fighting to protect children and teens from the irreversible harms of gender ideology. From “top surgery,” nipples peeling off, clitoral growth, trapped milk ducts, and hairy bodies, Identity Crisis documentaries bring to light the graphic stories of young adults now reckoning with the physical and emotional scars of gender ideology.
