“We are a nation of laws; the rule of law is the foundation that protects our rights and our safety, especially for women and children who are often the first to suffer when order breaks down.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women released the following statement condemning the violence that has been occurring in Los Angeles and supporting federal efforts to restore public safety and uphold the rule of law.

Meaghan Mobbs, director of the Center for American Safety and Security at Independent Women, said:
“What we are witnessing in Los Angeles is not protest. It is lawlessness. Rioters are torching vehicles, looting businesses, assaulting officers, and waving foreign flags on American soil. That is not a cry for justice. It is a threat to public order and national integrity.
“This all began because ICE was doing its job, enforcing the law and targeting individuals who have violated our immigration system. Enforcement of our immigration laws is not oppression; it is the basic function of a sovereign nation. No one has the right to violently disrupt a city because they object to the enforcement of federal law. We are a nation of laws or we are nothing.
“When local and state officials refuse to uphold the basic duty of government to protect life and property, the federal government not only has the right but the moral obligation to act. I fully support the Administration’s decision to deploy federal resources to restore peace and uphold the rule of law.
“This is not complicated. You cannot end violence by appeasing it. You stop it with strength. Law enforcement deserves our respect, not rocks and firebombs. Their restraint in the face of coordinated chaos has been extraordinary, but they need backup and they should get it.
“The American people deserve better than leaders who prioritize politics over public safety. This is not about partisanship. It is about protecting the innocent, enforcing the law, and reminding the world that the United States will not be held hostage by mob rule.”
Beth Parlato, senior legal advisor for Independent Women’s Law Center, said:
“The violence and destruction we’re seeing in Los Angeles are criminal acts that undermine the rule of law and threaten the safety of every law-abiding citizen. No political cause grants immunity from prosecution or justifies looting, arson, or assault. We are a nation of laws; the rule of law is the foundation that protects our rights and our safety, especially for women and children who are often the first to suffer when order breaks down. Leaders and elected officials must stop turning a blind eye to chaos and start enforcing the laws to protect law-abiding Americans who deserve safe communities for their families and a functioning criminal justice system.”
