“Independent Women is prepared to pursue every legal remedy available to hold Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute accountable.”

SANTA FE, NM — This evening, Independent Women, following a barrage of discrimination, falsehoods, and slander, announced a change of location for its “Her Game. Her Legacy.” celebration, originally scheduled to take place at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute (SFFMI), pursuant to a legally binding written contract. The celebratory women’s sports event will now be held tomorrow, Monday, June 23 at 1:00 pm at the Inn and Spa at Loretto in Santa Fe, less than one mile from the original venue.

All legal options are on the table to hold Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute accountable.

WHERE: The Inn and Spa at Loretto

211 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87501

WHEN: Monday, June 23, 2025, 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. MT

Formal programming begins at 2:20 p.m. MT

Three hours before Independent Women’s pre-arranged time at the SFFMI to allow for setup and vendor deliveries, the venue notified Independent Women that they were breaching their contract because “as much as we support free speech, we want to make it clear that SFFMI is in disagreement with the message and intent of this particular event.”

Beth Parlato, Independent Women Law Center senior legal advisor and Independent Women legal counsel, said, “Independent Women is the target of blatant discrimination, misinformation, and coordinated activist intimidation. SFFMI’s eleventh hour behavior is unconscionable. However, we will not be silenced, intimidated, or erased. We will defend our rights—and the rights of women and girls—to assemble, to speak, and to celebrate their achievements. This is not only a cowardly betrayal of their obligations under the contract, but also a clear violation of both state and federal law. Independent Women is prepared to pursue every legal remedy available to hold SFFMI accountable.”

Victoria Coley, vice president for communication and lead of the “Her Game. Her Legacy. Event”, said, “Let us be clear: Her Game. Her Legacy. is not a political or partisan event. We have fulfilled our contract with the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute—claims to the contrary are entirely false, baseless, and defamatory. This event is a joyful celebration of female athletes—past, present, and future. It exists to honor women’s sports, empower girls, and commemorate Title IX—53 years strong.

“SSFMI’s last-minute attempt to cancel our event is rooted in falsehoods and driven by hate and political bias. SSFMI isn’t just cancelling us—they’re canceling little girls and the very idea of celebrating women’s sports. That’s unacceptable,” Coley continued.
