Who makes the law?
Some activists want courts to make law or to change laws they don’t like.
They want the president to appoint judges and justices who will impose their political views from the bench.
Our elected representatives write our laws.
If the people think laws should change, they elect people who promise reform.
The role of the courts is to interpret and apply the law as written…
not respond to political pressure.
A judge who rules on the basis of politics is known as a ‘judicial activist.’
Supporters of judicial activism think that unelected judicial elites should make decisions for everyday Americans.
This undermines the role of our elected representatives and puts our democracy at risk.
That’s why the President must appoint only those judges who will interpret and apply the law as written.
This isn’t a Democrat idea or a Republican idea.
It’s an American idea.
